Wimbledon is best known to most of the world as the home of the world’s oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament, a very English haven of sportsmanship, perfectly-cut grass and strawberries and cream. Ironically, English people are aware of Wimbledon only as the home of burrow-dwelling recycling creatures The Wombles. In most regards, it’s a very typical and pleasant London suburb, with good access to a number of large green spaces such as Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park. Not too expensive and pretty well-kept, Wimbledon makes a good choice for anyone looking to stay in London’s suburbs.

Hotels near Wimbledon generally have between two and four stars, with the closest being the Stuart Hotel, which likes to style itself as being in Kensington rather than Wimbledon. This two star hotel is simple, ageing and comfortable, but with a good location and, according to its rare 10/10 user rating, a very good record of pleasing its customers.

The three star Antoinette Hotel Wimbledon claims to be Wimbledon’s largest and most established hotel. It has competitive rates, its own grill restaurant, and rooms that are generally very large by London standards, allowing it to provide a more relaxing break than you’d find at an equivalent city centre hotel.

One of the nicest hotels in Wimbledon is the Wimbledon Hotel on Worple Road, an elegant boutique guesthouse with just 14 individually-designed rooms, which are stylish and full of character. Being such a small establishment, there’s not much offered in the way of extra amenities, but it should make for a lovely base.

Wimbledon is served by Wimbledon Park, South Wimbledon, and Wimbledon, which services National Rail and the District Line.
