Victoria is a major transport hub in the City of Westminster with an underground station, a railway station and a coach station making up the complex. The underground station is however the focus of this particular article.
Victoria tube station is located on three lines, between Sloane Square and St James's Park on the Circle and District lines and between Pimlico and Green Park on the Victoria line. The station is situated within Travelcard Zone 1. London Victoria is the busiest station on the London Underground system, serving up to 80 million people annually. The station was first opened on Christmas Eve 1868, and there are future plans in place to make Victoria a stop on the proposed Chelsea-Hackney line, also called Crossrail 2. There is also a major upgrade plan to make the occasional overcrowding problems disappear, which will be due in 2014. Attractions Near London VictoriaVictoria's enviable central London location in the City of Westminster means it is very well located for sightseeing and viewing attractions. Just a five minute walk from the station is the grand Westminster cathedral, which is well worth a visit. If the monarch were to take public transport, (a purely hypothetical assertion for obvious reasons!) then London Victoria would more than likely be her place to go, it being very close to her Buckingham Palace residence. The palace is a must-see when visiting London and in the summer months the State Rooms are thrown open to the public, which makes for an extremely interesting visit. In a wider way, Victoria also serves the City of Westminster itself, which is extremely valuable as it contains a large chunk of the West End, the seat of British government and also, as seen above, Royal palaces and Whitehall. In all, London Victoria, rail or tube, is a great gateway to the nation's capital. Restaurants And Bars Near London VictoriaAs is the case with much of London, the variety of cuisine available to people near to Victoria station is mind-boggling. Worthy of mention are the Victoria Thai restaurant and the Goya Belgravia, the latter of which serves excellent authentic Spanish dishes in as much a Mediterranean atmosphere as can be mustered in central London! Victoria is also close to many chain restaurants, such as Pizza Hut, Pizza Express, Bella Italia and there is not one but two Nandos! Similarly, the range of nightspots and pubs are wide ranging and numerous. |
