The Southwark Playhouse Theatre Company was founded in 1993. They converted a disused workshop in a neglected area of Southwark into a flexible theatre space. It produces drama by new and emerging theatre practitioners and has made a name for itself in the capital’s fringe scene. It is currently housed in the vaults beneath London Bridge Train Station.
The theatre has a licensed bar and seats 150. A purpose built theatre is currently being constructed at Elephant and Castle. The new building will have a 200 seat main studio and a 100 seat youth and community space.
There is level access to the current building and all facilities are accessible to disabled patrons. Two spaces for wheelchair users are available in the auditorium which has an induction loop system for the hard of hearing. The building has disabled toilets.
The nearest train station is obviously London Bridge Mainline/Underground! There is an NCP car park on the corner of Snowsfield and Kipling Street which is 10 minutes’ walk away.
