So close to the airport that you can see the runway through some of its windows, the Renaissance Heathrow is situated on the A4 a stone's throw from the world's busiest airport. In addition to being a mere 10 minute drive from London Heathrow, the hotel is within close proximity of popular attractions including Hampton Court Palace, Windsor Castle and Legoland, with central London and all that it has to offer just 15 miles away. The easiest way to connect to the centre of the city is via the London Underground, which can be reached via the Piccadilly line at Heathrow Terminals 1, 2, 3 from the airport, although it is possible to drive to central London in around 45 minutes.

Shuttle Bus

The Renaissance London Heathrow hotel is 10 minutes drive from Heathrow Airport, which will cost around £10.00 if travelling by taxi and £4.00 when you take the bus. The hotel does not provide its own shuttle service but the Hoppa bus from the airport is available for £4.50 one way.

Facilities

As befits a hotel dedicated to providing comfort and relaxation next to a hugely busy transport hub, the Renaissance Heathrow has an impressive health club spanning a fitness centre, gym, sauna, steam rooms, beauty and massage treatments, spa/jacuzzi, solarium and dance studio, in addition to an outdoor golf course. There is even an on-site hairdressers for last minute touch-ups, as well as a gift shop, bureau de change, ATM machine and business centre with internet, photocopying and fax machines available.

The hotel has its own car park, for which it charges £10 a night if you wish to park there.

Rooms

The Renaissance London Heathrow hotel is a large property with 649 ensuite rooms, ranging across single, twin, queen and suite categories. Each room is soundproofed to ensure that the proximity to the airport remains a benefit and not a nuisance, and the contemporary yet traditional decor of the lobby and public spaces is carried through in the bedrooms, with inlaid wood, prints of London landmarks adorning the walls and all mod-cons. Facilities include air conditioning and central heating, satellite television, pay-per-view films, hairdryer, telephone, radio, minibar, WiFi access and fax, all designed to keep you comfortable and connected to the outside world. Some Club rooms even enjoy sweeping views over the airport, enabling you to plane-watch from your bed without the added decibels!

Dining

The DUO Restaurant and DUO Bar are open throughout the day and into the evening, with options for either fine dining or a simple drink and a range of international cuisine. The restaurant serves fresh buffet-style food all day long, with a specific à la carte menu for both breakfast and dinner. The DUO Bar is the place to go for cocktails and a smaller tasting menu, stretching into the evening. Alternatively, if you are after something quick and affordable the hotel hosts its very own Starbucks with old favourites including paninis and frappucinos.

Accessibility

The hotel is wheelchair accessible and well-equipped for guests with disabilities. There are 7 disabled parking bays reserved in the hotel car park and service animals are permitted inside the building. There are also 8 guest rooms that have been specially adapted for disabled guests, complete with roll-in showers, handrails and space next to the WC.

Ideally located only 15 minutes from Heathrow airport, The Renaissance has direct access both to and from the airport, via a shuttle bus than runs every 30 minutes. The Renaissance also offers access to central London via the Piccadilly line underground station at Terminals 1,2,3.

At first glance, the exterior of the Renaissance is leaves a lot to be desired. A Large grey concrete square towering into the sky. However uninviting the exterior maybe, inside tells another story. The vast modern hotel lobby is clean and with it's space offers comfort. A range of seating areas make the sometimes stressful task of checking in, especially for those who have young children, all that more relaxing.

The staff are welcoming and are more than willing to help with any concerns. Check in was a short affair, an up to date processing system avoided the timely task of filling in forms. There is also a separate desk located at the entrance dedicated to advice on the area, whether it be transport or entertainment related. Although I must advice to organise your own taxis as I found their services to be quite expensive.

The compact, yet well designed rooms, offer comfort and cleanliness. Everything that one would expect from a modern hotel; Air conditioning, Satellite TV, WIFI access are all present. However uninspiring the views, a plane can often be seen jetting into the distance, igniting the imagination, only if for a second or two. The bathrooms are in need of modernisation, but none the less serve thier purpose.

The renaissance boasts a wide range of facilities, ranging from an extensive fitness and health centre, offering gym sauna and steam rooms to the outdoor activity of golf. An atmospheric bar area, gives customers the chance to spend those evening hours chatting to fellow travelers or relaxing alone with a cocktail.
