The Prince of Wales Theatre was built in 1884. It put on a variety of different entertainments and eventually enough money was made to demolish the original building and put up a new, larger one in its place. This was in 1937. Since then, it has enjoyed great success with musical productions, including Funny Girl with Barbra Streisand in 1966 and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Aspects of Love starring Michael Ball (1989-1992).
The theatre is air conditioned and has 2 licensed bars. It has a seating capacity of 1160 over just 2 levels. The Circle is set high above the Stalls so only the very back of the lower level is affected by overhang. The end seats in Stalls rows J and K also suffer from a slightly sidelined view, but the Circle offers fantastic views throughout.
The main entrance has level access from the street and there are 3 wheelchair spaces available in the Stalls. There’s a lift at the back of the foyer to access the toilets and the Delfont Bar. There’s also an adapted toilet off the Stalls. The auditorium has a Sennheiser infra-red sound amplification system with 12 headsets for the hard of hearing.
The nearest tube is Piccadilly Circus (150m). The closest place to park is the Westminster City Council car park at Whitcomb Street.
