The Polka Theatre has been going since 1979 and is dedicated to producing and presenting work for young audiences. It’s targeted at ages 0 to 13. Each show is accompanied by a learning programme which helps children to develop creatively. It is known around the world as a pioneer of theatre for children.
There are 2 performance spaces – the Main Theatre and the Adventure Theatre, which are air conditioned. The building has a café and a foyer full of toys and books. There’s even a garden and playground with a Wendy House and a giant cat.
The Main Theatre has an induction loop for hearing aid users. Each of the theatre’s own productions has one British Sign Language interpreted performance scheduled. There is step-free access to the building from the main entrance and within most of the building, except the Main Theatre, which can be accessed via a lift. It has 6 spaces for wheelchair users and the Adventure Theatre has 2. There’s an adapted toilet at the back of the building.
The nearest tube stations are Wimbledon or South Wimbledon. Pay and display parking bays are available near the theatre, or you can make use of the car parks in Wimbledon town centre.
