Highgate is another former village swallowed up by London, but one which retains its pleasant Georgian character, although it’s less ritzy and exclusive than neighbouring Hampstead. One of Highgate’s major attractions is that it’s surrounded by green spaces, including historic Highgate Cemetery. Only a couple of Highgate hotels are actually situated in Highgate itself, but they are a good option for anyone who wants to avoid being swallowed by the pollution and noise of the city centre. The pubs and restaurants are plentiful, friendly and sophisticated, but shouldn’t be out of your price range.
Closest to the station is Furnival House, a one star halls of residence for the University of Westminster. Expect basic accommodation at a good price, but the House is situated in its own grounds, and all the rooms have access to kitchens, so it’s not a bad deal.
Next closest is the Best Western Raglan Hall Hotel. Well placed in fashionable Muswell Hill, Raglan Hall has small but stylish rooms with modern décor and plenty of homely comforts. For something cheaper and in a more classical style, the Five Kings Hotel is a quaint Edwardian townhouse which evidently prides itself on giving a typical London experience.
Highgate hotels have easy access to Highgate Station, which sits on the Northern Line.
