For many travellers, a good hotel near Heathrow is essential if they are to be well-rested and prepared for a long trip, and it certainly beats sleeping on the floor outside Terminal 4's WHSmith, waiting for a connecting flight or train. Luckily there are plenty of options to make sure you're not exhausted before the holiday even begins. Heathrow Terminal 4 hotels in general don't have a huge amount of attractions on their doorsteps unless you're a keen planespotter, but they can work as a destination in their own right. Nearby Windsor Castle is the largest inhabited castle in the entire world, and an amazing tourist attraction. For the kids, Thorpe Park operates from March to November, and is England's second most popular theme park after Alton Towers. And if you liked that, Legoland and Chessington World of Adventures are both within easy reach as well.
The primary option for visitors to Terminal 4 is the Hilton London Heathrow, which is the only hotel to have a direct link with Terminal 4, and also offers a complimentary bus service to Terminal 5. A 4-star establishment catering for businesses and leisure travellers, the Hilton has an excellent swimming pool and plentiful business facilities, and aims to provide an oasis of calm from the madness of the airport.
The Radisson Edwardian Heathrow goes a few steps (and one star) further, with a spectacular period setting and its own Pegasus Health Spa, it's certainly the most luxurious option anywhere near Heathrow. A little further down the cost scale, Jurys Inn Heathrow is comfortable, spacious and provides good access to all five terminals.
Heathrow Terminal 4 Hotels are serviced by the tube station, which is in far-out Zone 6 on the tube map, but offers a pretty painless 30 minute train ride into the centre of London on the Piccadilly Line.
