About Hampstead

Hampstead is an area known for its liberal, creative and arty leanings, but perhaps paradoxically has a greater concentration of millionaires than anywhere else in the U.K. Visitors can easily see what the fuss is about. While still very close to Central London, Hampstead has the feel of an incredibly affluent Cotswold village, with charming shops and restaurants and a classy, classically English feel to the architecture, with a great many large, grand houses. Hampstead High Street is a particularly charming place with a character entirely separate from that of Central London but a great many of the city’s best places to eat. The other big draw is Hampstead Heath. One of London’s largest green spaces, it is also densely populated with interesting sights and things to do, unlike some of the more barren large parks to the south. It’s very easy to spend a day getting lost on the heath, wandering the charming country paths only to stumble across some of the best views in London.

Considering the relative wealth of the area, Hampstead hotels are comparatively mid-range. One of the closest is La Gaffe, which comes highly recommended by many professional bodies. It’s a warm and welcoming family establishment with an exceptional French restaurant attached. The rooms are minimal, clean and stylish.

The four star Langorf Hotel also comes highly-rated, and also relies upon the countryside charm that Hampstead hotels typically attempt to emulate. There’s nothing to really delight the senses here, but the service is of a high standard and the apartment rooms are spacious and well-furnished for a relaxed break. Alternatively, the two star Quality Hotel is a good chain hotel option, with affordable prices that include a filling English Breakfast as standard.

Hampstead tube station is on the Northern Line.
