About Green Park

Green Park is one of the Royal Parks of London, occupying a space between St. James’ Park and Hyde Park, and adjoining Buckingham Palace, making it one of the most desirable addresses in London, although there aren’t really any houses nearby, just hotels, palaces, shops and government buildings. The park itself was originally a swampy burial ground for lepers, but I suppose the area became somewhat gentrified once the Queen moved in. The park today is tranquil and pleasant. Lacking the various buildings and monuments that pepper most of London’s parks, Green Park is a mostly unbroken area of wooded meadows.

Green Park hotels offer easy access to all of Central London, with Buckingham Palace on one side and seedy Soho on the other. Consequently, they are exclusively five and four star establishments, so we may as well start with the nearest, which just so happens to be the legendary Ritz, a palace of visually confusing Regency finery. The rooms are exquisitely OTT, and tourists must take care to sample the London institution of Tea at the Ritz.

The Dukes Hotel offers a slightly quieter five star option, set in a secluded courtyard rather than on bustling Piccadilly. The décor is rather less frenzied than that of the Ritz, but doesn’t lack for luxury.

The May Fair Hotel is more expensive, but also one of the most fashionable and visually-stunning Green Park hotels. The rooms have a formidable glamour. The atmospheric restaurant is of excellent quality, and the hotel also has strong links to the film industry, with the May Fair Film Club having its own cinema and participating in festivals.

Green Park tube station is on the Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria Lines.

Green Park Tube Station

Green Park tube station is an underground stop situated at the north side of Green Park, London. It is one of the primary stations serving Mayfair, an extremely affluent area of central London. Mayfair itself is bordered by Marylebone and St James's to the north and south, and to the east and west by Soho and Hyde Park.

Green Park station is served by the Piccadilly Line, between Piccadilly Circus and Hyde Park Corner, on the Victoria line between Victoria and Oxford Circus, and finally on the Jubilee Line, between Bond Street and Westminster. The station is in Travelcard zone 1.

Attractions Near Green Park

Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are both in Mayfair, and offer lovely green areas, oases in the metropolis of London. The Curzon Mayfair cinema is an art-house picture house that is worth a look and finally, you can unleash your inner child in Hamley's, the largest toy shop in England.

Restaurants And Bars Near Green Park

As you might expect, there are many elegant restaurants in Mayfair which offer delicious food in sumptuous surroundings. Restaurants such as the Embassy and the Ritz restaurant are prime examples of this. It needn't be massively expensive to eat in Mayfair however, with brasseries such as Langan's Brasserie and The Market Brasserie offering a range of dishes and drinks at more reasonable prices. There is a selection of nice Indian restaurants, with the Tamarind in particular offering delicious curries. Cheaper eats can be found at chain outlets such as Pizza Express and smaller pizzerias such as Pizza in the Market, which also offer a takeaway service.

There are a proliferation of private member's bars in Mayfair, such as the Arts Club and the Naval Club, but there are also cool bars such as the American Bar and Davy's. There are also good nightclubs in the area, such as the Hard Rock Cafe, which offers cheap drinks and a large dancing area. If you are just after a quiet drink however, pubs such as the Red Lion and Samuel Pepys should suit you well.
