Great Portland Street forms the western edge of Fitzrovia, the central London area between Oxford Street, Euston, and Tottenham Court Road. Just north of the absolute centre, Great Portland Street separates arty Fitzrovia from the wealthy areas to the west, and has elements of both cultures, with several small unique shops mixing with much bigger businesses, most notably the BBC and several other British media institutions. Quieter than Oxford Street, it is nonetheless just a few minutes from London's busiest shopping area, as well as being close to Regents Park, Hyde Park and buzzing Soho.
Great Portland Street hotels generally hover around the 4-star mark, but the closest 5-star is the Langham, a mansion of unabashed luxury described as 'the epitome of elegance and poise', and receives excellent customer feedback for its efforts. Just as popular is the 4-star Melia White House Hotel, which is situated just one block away from Regents Park and features an award-winning restaurant. Alternatively, the Astor Court Hotel is a Great Portland Street hotel offering good value for money, with basic but comfortable rooms close to Oxford Street.
Great Portland Street station is a zone 1 station at the north end of the street. Situated between Baker Street and Euston Square, it services the Circle, Hammersmith & City, and Metropolitan lines.
