ABOUT FULHAM BROADWAY STATION

The station is close to some wonderful Fulham Broadway hotels and it sits between West Brompton and Parsons Green on the Wimbledon branch of the District Line. Located in Hammersmith and Fulham Local Authority, on Fulham Broadway (A304) the station is in Zone 2.

The earliest form of Fulham is 'Fullanham' and the old English word is believed to have meant 'the place' of either 'mud' or 'fowls' which could relate to the periodical flooding of the Thames. Some scholars believe in an alternate meaning of the word 'Fullanham' thinking it instead refers to 'land in the crook of a river, belonging to a man named Fulla'.

During the 18th century Fulham acquired a reputation for drinking and debauchery and it has been described as an 18th century 'Las Vegas' style hotspot for the most wealthy of London to gamble and see prostitutes.

These days Fulham is one of the most expensive and respectable parts of London, with house prices in SW6 in the region of £639,973 on average (September 2008). In fact, Queen's Brian May, The Sex Pistol's Johnny Rotten, James Bond actor Roger Moore and Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe are all notable residents.


WHERE TO STAY

There are some really good Fulham Broadway hotels that make this an excellent place to stay on your trip to London. If you’re a Chelsea supporter then the ideal Fulham hotel is the 4 star Hotel at Chelsea which is actually built on the Chelsea ground.

Other good Fulham Broadway hotels include the 3 star Jurys Inn Chelsea and the 3 star La Reserve Hotel, both are good hotels near Fulham Broadway, these provide good service and are within walking distance of Fulham Broadway station.

Fulham Broadway hotels are great as they vary in standard and price and there is a hotel for every traveller, the area is also a short walk from the trendy Kings Road and is a great place to stay.


ATTRACTIONS NEAR FULHAM BROADWAY

Within walking distance of most Fulham Broadway hotels is Putney Bridge and high street, the area also has excellent Thames views. Bookworms will delight in visiting Hurlingham Books, a small traditional, cluttered second-hand book store just outside Fulham station and a number of small, inexpensive cafe’s are also nearby.

There are a great many peaceful and good quality hotels near Fulham Broadway and it is also well known for being the closest station to Stamford Bridge Stadium which is the home of Chelsea Football Club. Visitors can take in a movie at Fulham Broadway Vue which shows the latest releases, or visit Kings Road, which is the main road in Chelsea and runs from Sloan Square all the way to Putney Bridge.

Shoppers will delight in the high-class boutiques on Kings Road and there are many other outlets which include department stores, designer shops, antique shops and places to eat and drink, all close to popular Fulham Broadway hotels.


RESTAURANTS AND BARS NEAR FULHAM BROADWAY

Hotels near Fulham Broadway are also in a good position because residents can go to one of the superb places to eat nearby. Memsaab is a contemporary Indian offering delectable meals and it can be found on Imperial Wharf. For a Lebanese banquet Mandaloun on Fulham Road is a smart, sophisticated choice and Barbarella, an Italian on the same road is equally stylish. Irish food can be sampled at Arkles, near to Chelsea Football Ground.

Bargain hunters might like to grab an affordable take away from Chop Chop Noodle Bar on Fulham Broadway, close to the station; alternatively pub lunches often won't break the bank. Bootsy's Brogan's is an Irish style pub which serves pub food and a grand drinks selection and Lloyds No 1 is part of the Wetherspoons chain on Fulham Road serving exceptionally cheap drinks and food. Places to grab a classy cocktail include Fulham Road's Ad Lib and Kosmopol.
