Popular with younger travellers and backpackers, the Forest Gate Hotel is a 2 star budget establishment offering basic, no-frills accommodation with good transport links into central London, all at unbeatably low prices. Located near Stratford train station, the hotel is close to the new Westfield Stratford City shopping centre as well as the London Olympic site, meaning that it is sure to be a very popular choice in 2012! The access to several tube lines also means that guests can easily travel throughout the capital, with the vibrant and cosmopolitan areas of Shoreditch and Canary Wharf within particularly easy reach.

The Forest Gate Hotel itself takes the form of a traditional bed and breakfast, and is situated on the upper levels of an East End pub. Young tourists on a budget will particularly appreciate the choice between private rooms in single, double, twin or triple occupancy sizes as well as dormitory rooms, meaning that many different groups can stay in relative comfort. The decor is somewhat shabby and old fashioned but not past what you would expect at the price, and private rooms do contain a television and basic kitchen facilities to help save even more money.

There is a separate, fully-equipped kitchen available to all hotel residents should you not wish to splash out on expensive meals out, and the pub on the ground floor of the building gives a true taste of the East End. Pool and darts are available, as are screenings of live sports.

Nearest station is Stratford (Central, Jubilee, National Rail).

This place is literally in the middle of nowhere to start off with, a bargirl booked us in as opposed to the owner. The room stinks and had beer cans under the bed; the tv had awful signal and the room was tiny, like living in the attic.
After leaving for a day an expensive item was presumably stolen; when questioning the owner he said little and knew nothing of any theft.
The breakfast was little and burnt and the bathroom is used by everyone, including the shower - hence avoiding washing in such an unclean hellhole; the toilets were also very disgusting and unclean.
We left a day early and they could care less, the owners answer was a rude 'ok'. The police were called shortly after to investigate the dump. Do not go to this place if you want to have a good time; be my guest if you wish for a stay in a dirty hell and items stolen.
