Earls Court Station is on the District Line and considered to be in both Zone 1 and 2 as it is situated directly between them. Located in the Kensington and Chelsea Local Authority, this historically rich station is close to a multitude of popular Earls Court hotels. The area's name: 'Earls Court' was originally Earl's Court (with an apostrophe) and it's often still written this way, in fact this is how the phrase is written on all ordinance survey maps ever recorded, other maps tend to discard the apostrophe. The area was once charmingly rural and it was famed for pleasant meadows and lush market gardens. Old Manor Yard is the place where Earls would converge to hold their Manorial Court centuries ago, which is how the area was named and Earl's Court Farm is can be seen on a map of London from 1827. Attractions Near Earls Court StationThere are an impressive amount of things to see and do, Earls Court hotels cater to a variety of different tastes and budgets. There are 4 impressive cinemas close by including the typical block-buster showing cinemas Fulham Broadway Vue, Odeon Kensington and UGC Fulham Road and each is around half a mile away. Slightly further afield is Cine Lumiere and a short bus ride away is the world famous IMAX cinema at the London Science Museum. Closer to home you might like to visit the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens which was commissioned by Queen Victoria in the 1800's and Chelsea Physic Garden, which is a botanical garden that was founded in the 1600's in order to grow healing herbs for apothecaries. The Majestic Royal Albert Hall is also a comfortable walk away and since 1941 it has hosted the annual Proms concerts each summer. Kensal Green Cemetery offers visitors free guided (audio) walks and is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in London. Restaurants And Bars Near Earls Court StationEating out without having to stray too far from your Earls Court hotel is easy. If you're hankering after an affordable, but utterly delicious Indian the chain restaurant Masala Zone on Earls Court road can knock you up an appetising feast. On the same road you can also find As Greek As It Gets, a lively yet modern and minimalist restaurant that serves well sized portions of traditional Greek treats. Capricciosa on Cromwell Road is a stylish, spacious Italian with a sophisticated menu and Kings Kebab house close to the station dispenses takeaway meals that won't break the budget. Earls Court hotels are conveniently close to both Earls Court Tavern and the Irish chain pub O'Neils which is perfect for a cheap pint. For an old fashioned, British, savoury pie you can't beat The Blackbird on Earls Court Road and you can wash it down with a hefty pint of ale. Sophisticated types might like to enjoy a cocktail at Hush, a bar and Restaurant which is owned and ran by Bond actor Roger Moore's son Geoff, they're sure to do a fabulous Vodka Martini!
