Clapham South Station is in south west London, in the Borough of Wandsworth. It is right beside Clapham Common, a large park which is a great place for games and picnics on a sunny day. The area is popular with twenty-somethings and young families. There are lots of media types and antipodeans living here. Clapham is known for its nightlife and there is a good selection of bars near this station. The High Street offers many more choices for eating, drinking and dancing and is a short walk away.

Clapham South tube station is served by the Northern Line and is in Travelcard Zones 2 and 3. It’s in the Borough of Wandworth in south west London. The station was designed by Charles Holden and opened in 1926. It was used as a deep level air raid shelter during the Second World War, one of 8 stations in London to have been adapted for this purpose.
The station opens onto Clapham Common, a vast, 220 acre, expanse of green parkland used for sports, walks and Sunday picnics by the area’s inhabitants, a mixture of trendy twenty-somethings and young families. It has 3 ponds which can be used for fishing and model boating. In the centre of the park is the largest bandstand in London, constructed in 1890. A two day music festival is held in the park each year over the August Bank Holiday. Known as South West 4, it features mainly DJs and dance music with some live acts.
Wandsworth Common is another green space nearby. Not quite as big, at 175 acres, it is also used for sports. Much of this is informal games of football, touch rugby and rounders, but there are also tennis courts and a bowling green. There’s an educational centre you can visit there called “The Scope”; it’s dedicated to wildlife.
There are several restaurants, pubs and bars around Clapham South, including Gigalum, known for its DJ sessions and large alfresco seating area. All the nightlife of Clapham High Street is a just few minutes’ walk away.
If you’ve been checking out the bars around Clapham South the night before, what better hangover cure than a proper English breakfast? The best place around here is the Glow Lounge Bar. Ask for “The Full Monty” and they’ll serve you up a plate of Cumberland sausage, smoked bacon, eggs, hash brown, tomato, mushrooms, beans and sourdough toast. Breakfast can be ordered up until 3 pm for late risers!
