Attractions
Canons Park is a Grade II listed historic landscape. It used to be the grounds of one of the grandest houses in 18th century England. It still contains several historic buildings including the remnants of the original Chandos Mansion, which is now part of North London Collegiate School. The former kitchen gardens have been replanted to make a pretty, 1930’s styled walled garden. St Lawrence Whitchurch is a beautiful late mediaeval church with an 18th century organ, which was used by Handel when he worked for the Duke of Chandos. There is a sports ground with tennis courts nearby, as well as a small park, Centenary Park, which has a bowling green and Pitch ‘n’ Putt. The Royal Air Force Museum is Britain’s national museum of aviation. It has several hundred thousand objects on display including more than 100 full size aircraft. It’s a family friendly museum with plenty of hand on exhibits. The museum also has a 3D cinema and an audiovisual presentation about the Battle of Britain, where visitors are seated above a Hurricane and Spitfire, and the period is brought to life with film footage, sound and lighting effects. Entrance to the museum is free. |
