Bounds Green is in Haringey, north London. It’s a residential, suburban area with not much in the way of night life, except a few pubs. There are some small local shopping parades but no big shopping centres. The area suffers from traffic congestion as the north circular runs through it. Apart from that, it is a quiet, family community that would suit those travelling with children. There is a recreation ground with tennis courts nearby, and a golf course.
If you are looking for a hotel near Bounds Green station, there are several 2 and 3 star properties available; see below for more details. As an alternative to a hotel, there are also a couple of serviced apartments in this area, which are typically available for short stays and feature fully equipped kitchens and sitting rooms, with a maid service. Despite being out of the city centre, Bounds Green hotels are not particularly cheap.
Bounds Green is a tube station in North London, on the boundary between Zones 3 and 4. It’s on the Piccadilly Line. It opened in 1932 and has an octagonal frontage. Like many other tube stations, it was used as an air raid shelter during the Second World War, and in this case, space on the platform was allocated with tickets. In 1940, a bomb was dropped on houses to the north of the station, which caused part of the tunnel to collapse, killing several people. A plaque at the scene has been placed in memory of the 16 Belgian refugees and 3 British citizens who died. One of the regular characters at the station these days is a market trader who brings with him a trolley full of odds and ends every day. He often gives the staff little gifts like toys or streamers, which can be seen in the supervisor’s office.
It’s possible to arrange a variety of activities at the nearby Scout Park, such as Archery, Air Rifle Shooting, climbing, canoeing and pioneering. There is also a nature centre to explore. The park covers 8 acres and is owned by the local scout troop. All its facilities and buildings can be hired out including a bunk house and chalets with 2 rooms for adults.
Muswell Hill Golf Club has a par 71 course, where visitors are welcome. It was founded in 1893 and has recently hosted the mens and women Middlesex Amateur Golf Championships. The New River Stadium and Sports Centre is also nearby.
