Blackwall is in the Docklands, East London. It’s close Poplar Business Park and a local parade of shops, and just across the river from the O2 Centre. Blackwall is a station on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) in East London. It’s in Zone 2. It’s on the Beckton Branch, which opened in 1994. The station is near the entrance to the Blackwall Road Tunnel under the Thames.
This area was formerly used for shipping and industry. Relics of those days can be seen if you walk along East India Dock Wall Road. You can see the old Import Dock wall and the Hydraulic Power Station of 1857 which powered the machinery when the docks were working.
The O2 centre is on the other side of the Thames. Housed in what was formerly known as the Millennium Dome, it is a massive complex with concert arena, nightclub, cinema, exhibition space, bars and restaurants. A wide variety of gigs, shows and exhibitions can be seen there throughout the year.
Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park is a freshwater habitat which has an inner lake, accessed through a Gatehouse during opening times, and an outer lake which is accessible at all times. The Park is home to a wide variety of wildlife including frogs, butterflies and water birds. There are special hides to let you watch the wildlife without disturbing them.
The Paintball Centre has 40,000 feet of playing space. It’s the largest indoor facility in London and allows you to play whatever the weather. It has lots of interesting obstacles including a ¾ size military tank. These were created by set designers from Hollywood movies like Tomorrow Never Dies and Gladiator. It also has heated showers and a bar and café.
