Beckton Park Station is in Newham, East London. It is bordered on one side by Beckton District Park and on the other by the Royal Albert Docks. There are some hotels near Beckton Park Station, but they are actually better accessed from other stations on the Docklands Light Railway. This area is close to London City Airport and there are a number of high quality hotels. The Ramada Hotel and Suites London Docklands (****) for instance, which is actually the closest Beckton Park hotel. It has high ceilings, parquet floors and a glass wall, with a view over the water and the city. The Sunborn Yacht Hotel (****) is an unusual option. It’s the world’s first custom built yacht hotel and is moored in the Royal Victoria Docks. There are several 3 star and mid range hotels available in this area as well, so there is plenty of accommodation to choose from.
Beckton Park station is on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) in the East of London. It’s in Travelcard Zone 3. As with all open air DLR stations, it is unmanned, and tickets must be bought from machines. The station has a slightly unusual design. The railway runs along at the same height as a road built at the same time as the line. Beckton Park Station is at a roundabout, where the road rises and the railway dips, so the station is under the centre of the elevated roundabout.
The station is opposite Beckton District Park. This is a huge green space with woodland, grassy lawns and a large lake with a shingle beach. To fish in the lake, you must be a member of the Newham Angling Club, but new members are always welcome.
Newham City Farm was set up in 1977 to offer education and leisure activities to the local community. It has an interesting collection of farm animals including some rare breeds. You can see Berkshire pigs, Red Poll cows, Golden Guernsey goats, a Shire Horse and many more. In the spring, baby animals are on the farm. There’s an opportunity to have a tour and to touch some of the animals and you can also buy farm produce like eggs and honey.
The station is north of Royal Albert Docks, but there is no foot access at this point. London City Airport is nearby, as is the Excel Centre, but other stops on the DLR are actually closer.
