The Bankside House residence can be found in the very centre of London in Southwark, and is excellently situated for guests wishing to discover the city without wasting time and money on trains or taxis. The Tate Modern art gallery and architecturally innovative Millennium Bridge are a minute's walk from the entrance, and other significant attractions nearby include St Paul's Cathedral, Shakespeare's Globe, Southwark Cathedral and Borough Market. The financial heart of the city is a short journey via Tube, and the West End with its multitude of theatres and bars can be reached in a few minutes. The area surrounding the rooms contains lots of pubs, restaurants and snack shops and is a lively part of the capital throughout the week. The Southbank Centre and Hayward Gallery are extremely close, regularly showcasing art and theatre.
Although there is no internet access in the bedrooms, the building does offer wireless access in the lobby at a cost of £2.00 per 30 minutes. An on-site games room and bar are both open for when you have a few spare hours or just want to relax, and laundry services are also available.
There are a limited number of free parking spaces available at the residence for hotel guests, granted on a first come, first served basis.
For most of the year Bankside House is a university residence for LSE students, and as such the rooms are basic yet surprisingly clean, bright and modern, with wooden furnishings and secure locks on the doors and windows. Rooms are available as a single, twin, triple or quad, and there is a mixture of ensuite rooms and those with shared facilities. In-room amenities are basic, but guests can still expect tea and coffee making facilities, telephone and work desk with lamp. If you are looking for affordable and comfortable accommodation to use as a base to discover London, each room is more than adequate.
Bankside House has its own restaurant that serves breakfast every morning between 7am and 10am, with a choice between a full English or Continental breakfast. Breakfast is included in the room rate or can be bought separately for £5.50. There is also a bar on-site serving drinks and basic snacks.
