Finchley is another residential suburb, famous for being the constituency of Margaret Thatcher. If you are looking for Arnos Grove hotels, the closest accommodation you will find is the Wood Green Apartment, which is a 2 bedroom apartment in Wood Green, a fashionable and lively area with lots of attractions. However, there are other tube stations that are closer to each of these hotels. Clicking on them below will bring up further information.
Arnos Grove station is on the Piccadilly Line in Zone 4. It’s in the borough of Enfield, in North London. The station was built in 1932 and named after a country estate to the north, owned by the Arnold family in the 14th century and known by that name ever since. When the station was built, it was a rural area, but in the years that followed it became fully developed.
The station has a circular hall of brick and glass panels which was inspired by the design of Stockholm City Library. It was designed by Charles Holden and has achieved high praise as a work of architecture, described by one critic as “one of the finest of all 20th century buildings”. The station has a cat called Spooky that used to live in the ticket office but has now been banished to the car park.
Aside from appreciating the station itself, there are a couple of things to do and see in this area. New Southgate Cemetery is the resting place of Shogi Effendi, the great-grandson of the founder of the Baha’i Faith and its leader from 1921 to 1957.
Arnos Pool was built during the development of the area during the 1930’s. Arnos Park is all that is left of the original Arnos Estate. It has woodland and grassy space as well as a large children’s playground and tennis courts. Broomfield Park is also nearby, with its model boat pond, adventure playground and crazy golf course.
