Arcola Theatre Hotels

Arcola Theatre was founded in 2000 and is housed in a converted factory in Hackney.  It puts on a range of work, both in-house productions and pieces by young touring companies.  It focuses on theatre that has social and political relevance to people who live in this multicultural part of East London.

With a strong focus on the community and the environment, it aims to be the first carbon neutral theatre in the world, through measures such as recycling waste and old sets and installing hydrogen fuel cell powered lighting.  It has an eco–café and bar serving fair trade, organic, vegetarian food.  It’s open Monday to Friday, 10 am til late and noon til late on the weekends.  The theatre also runs a number of community programmes, including music, drama and writing groups. 

The main studio holds 160 people and the second holds 60.  The performance spaces are wheelchair accessible and there is a disabled toilet in the building. 

The nearest tubes are Highbury & Islington and Liverpool Street, but they are some distance away and you will need to catch a bus from there to the theatre (number 30 and number 149 respectively).  Otherwise, you can use Dalston Kingsland Station which is now part for the London Overground Network, so you can use an Oyster card for the journey.  There is limited parking in the area, but you may be able to find some in the streets surrounding the theatre.
