Amersham is a train and tube station in Buckinghamshire. It is at the very western end of the Metropolitan Line, a terminus, in Zone 9. It is the highest station above sea level on the whole underground system (at 147 metres or 490 feet) and the most westerly station on the network (27 miles from central London). Amersham Station opened in 1892. The inhabitants had previously been opposed to a railway running through, feeling that it would bring ruination to their little town. However, when they saw other towns had prospered from being connected to London, they changed their minds.
