Aldwych Theatre Hotels

The Aldwych Theatre was built in 1905, part of a landmark new development on a newly constructed street in the West End.  The Aldwych was part of a pair with the Waldorf Theatre, now known as the Novello.  Between the two venues was the Waldorf Hotel. 

The Aldwych stage has been graced by many screen sirens over the years, including Vivien Leigh, who appeared in "A Streetcar Named Desire" in 1949, and Joan Collins, who starred in "Private Lives" in the early 1990’s.  For 20 years the theatre was also the home of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Since the turn of the millennium it has staged a variety of plays, comedies and musicals.  In another hit for girly glamour, it has had a lot of success with the stage version of retro chick flick "Dirty Dancing".

The auditorium has a seating capacity of 1092.  It is air conditioned and there are 4 licensed bars.  You can buy food and sweets from kiosks and attendants, as well as merchandise in the main foyer.  Girls will find it difficult to leave without picking up a pink T-shirt with the famous line, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner."

There is a disabled entrance on Drury Lane and there are 2 spaces for wheelchair users in the Dress Circle.  There is an adapted toiler off the main foyer on that level and the auditorium has an infrared hearing system. 

The nearest tube station is Covent Garden (500m).  Parking is available on meters outside the theatre or at the NCP on Drury Lane/Parker Street.
