This is Acton Town Tube Station, which is on the District and Piccadilly lines. There are a few other stations with “Acton” in the title (for example, East Acton and South Acton) which are on different lines, so take care not to get confused. Acton Town is in Travelcard Zone 3. It’s in the borough of Ealing, West London. The original station on this site was opened in 1879. The current building dates from a reconstruction in the early 1930’s. It is designed a geometric style using brick, reinforced concrete and glass. A recent refurbishment has added two new lifts, providing a step-free access to the station for disabled passengers and those with luggage. An accessible toilet was also installed. To the north of the station is Ealing Common Depot. Here, in a former repair shop, is housed the London Transport Museum’s reserve collection of rail and road vehicles, as well as a vast store of posters, artwork, signs, ticket machines and ephemera. Public access to the Museum Depot is limited, but guided tours can be booked on certain weekends throughout the year.
